3D Animation

This short video was completed as part of a coursework unit in digital media and 3D animation. Throughout my degree I’ve become more interested in the application of 3D software such as Maya. The brief was to create a short animation using 3D modelling. As a graphic designer I wanted to see how I could use my own logo to create a unique short animation for branding. The focus for this project was on movement and storytelling, and I used the little character from my logo to try and communicate the values and ideals of my personal brand. While I was making the animation, I thought about how I wanted to present myself as an imaginative, fun and big-picture focused designer.   

While I’m not a professional animator, I think designers should always be trying new techniques and different ways of communicating using visual language. Animation as a craft helps me think about how to communicate ideas and themes using short videos that often have to be meticulously designed each frame at a time. As well as being visually eye-catching, short animations can communicate a lot of emotion and creativity in a way that static designs cannot.
